immoral, scandalous behaviour is what it’s called! but nowadays I think people refer to it euphemistically enough as speed dating
It’s been called Speed Dating, Rapid Dating, 3 Minute Dates, 8 Minute Dates, Hurry Date, Date Switch, Dating 2.0, It’s Just Lunch and Minute Mixer.
A quick Google search for any of those keywords will find you information. Usually, these are small matchmaker companies, located in larger cities, that run 1 or 2 Speed Dating things a month, sometimes more.
They’re usually held in a resteraunt and can cost anywhere from $ 50-$ 300 to attend. They tend not to hold them that often, because there still isn’t a lot of interest in them yet, and they want a large crowd of both men and women for each event. So, they tend to wait untill the event fills up, before it’s held.
Usually, the women will sit, while the men rotate around the room, going from woman to woman. Each person will have a score card and will rate the other person. At the end of event, those who appeared compatible will be allowed to contact one another for a real date.
There is another popular alternative. The last two I mentioned above, aren’t really Speed Dating. They are singles dinner party events. The matchmaking service holds these dinner parties in a resteraunt and invites equal numbers of men and women to attend. You pay the service and you pay for your meal. If you feel a connection with someone at your table, then you can explore that connection after the dinner in the lounge area. These are held in really large cities like NYC and LA, so it may not be easy to find these events.
The third type of dating method is a bit more high tech. Dating services are now programming your information into electronic devices that you wear and then sending you to a singles party. When you are near someone that is compatible, your electronic device will light-up or make a sound. You’ll then know you’re compatible and can begin a conversation with that person. I really don’t know too much about this dating method, but I’ve heard it’s catching on quickly. It’s similar to online dating, but in a real world setting.
Many match making services will have events that may not be speed dating, dinner parties or electronic dating, but they still provide an oppertunity to meet other singles, who may be compatible. You may want to contact your local service and learn more about them.
